Preliminary Sketches
CREATIVE CONCEPT: When Richert & I first approached this project we focused our research on traditional Ex Voto Heart designs. We studied gorgeous vintage museum-quality examples, modern Mexican pottery tourist souvenirs, even tattoo flash art! Keeping these ideas in mind, I knew I wanted to incorporate a floral motif in my design, but what kind? How could I stay true to the historical heritage, yet make it fresh...a gesture all my own?!?

CREATIVE PRACTICES: After dusting off & taking inventory of my artist tools & supplies, I found most of my color markers had gone dry so I headed to the craft store to stock up on some bright new pens & drawing pads! As soon as I got home I set pencil to paper & started to scribble spontaneously. I opened my heart & expressed freely...no boundaries, no judgment! Before I knew it, only a few hours passed & I already had 8 different sketches!
